About the job

In the role of field staff, you will work with fieldwork in our various projects related to fish inventories and fish biological studies.

This includes, for example, electrofishing, net fishing, and collection of genetic samples. Going out early to retrieve nets, release fish, and take samples from them, ending the day by setting nets for the next day can be a typical workday. You need to be prepared for sometimes long working hours, and a high degree of flexibility is necessary based on weather conditions and other prerequisites for the execution of assignments.

The position starts on June 1 and lasts for at least 3 months with a possible extension. We operate throughout the county and are based in the office in Luleå, with overnight stays in other locations as part of your daily routine. Working outdoors can be physically demanding, carrying equipment and standing/walking in flowing water. Some lab work is also included, which requires precision and organizational skills.

The work is constantly evolving, and based on our mission, the tasks may change over time. Therefore, you need to be able to handle changes. At the same time, it gives you opportunities to develop and both broaden and deepen your skills with us.

About you

We are looking for someone who has:

• good physical condition with the ability to walk in terrain and wade in flowing water
• a driver's license for passenger cars.

As a person, you have good teamwork skills, are responsible, and can work in a group and solve problems that arise. You are also used to working independently, taking responsibility, and initiating and identifying necessary processes/steps in the work. We consider it an advantage if you have:

• completed training in electrofishing and/or fish marking
• experience in electrofishing, net fishing
• you have or have started a university education in natural sciences with a biological or limnological focus
• boat and field experience
• experience working in a government agency or municipal operations.
